Hytale is a role-playing game with sandpit elements, released for early access on January 13, 2026. Development began in 2015 by Hypixel Studios, the creators of the popular Hypixel server for Minecraft, with financial backing from Riot Games, which later acquired the studio entirely in 2020. In 2025, Riot Games canceled the project, but studio founder Simon Collins-LaFlamm bought the rights and resumed development.
The game combines Minecraft’s creative freedom with RPG elements, offering a procedurally generated world of diverse biomes, dungeons and creatures. The players will experience random events, hidden monster dens and, in the future, a story-driven RPG campaign with quests and artifacts.
Gameplay includes battles with monsters, building with block structures, official support for mods to create their own modes and change the rules of the game, and opportunities for social interaction and online communities.
In early access, research modes are available (sandpit with survival elements and emphasis on finding gear) and creative mode with tools for modding and editing the world.
Feedback on the game is mixed. Players are noted for high levels of engagement, rich peace and visual diversity. The main shortcomings are performance problems, a sense of emptiness and repetition of locations.
The review of Hytale is coming to an end, but before you go play, you should take a look at the minimum and recommended system requirements of Hytale.
