The Xbox network experienced its biggest outage in recent memory, with a number of key features and functionality remaining unavailable to users for 15 hours. By the time the news was published, services had been restored.

Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet called the situation "unacceptable." According to him, the root cause was a glitch in the Microsoft license library system, which triggered a cascading effect. To stabilize, engineers redirected Xbox traffic to other segments of the cloud infrastructure.

Microsoft plans to conduct a full analysis of the incident to prevent similar situations from happening again. Van Vliet thanked users for their patience and promised improvements in the operation and support of the service.

Separately, it is worth noting that last week similar problems were observed with PlayStation: players were temporarily unable to use the store and multiplayer.
